Hamlet- postacie

The King of Denmark, Hamlet’s uncle. The villain of the play. He has married Gertrude, his brother's widow.

Claudius

The Prince of Denmark, son of Queen Gertrude and the late King Hamlet, and the nephew of the present king, Claudius. He has studied at the University of Wittenberg.

Hamlet

Hamlet’s close friend, who studied with the prince at the university in Wittenberg. He came to Elsinore Castle to attend King Hamlet's funeral. Loyal and helpful to Hamlet. After Hamlet’s death remains alive to tell Hamlet’s story.

Horatio

Polonius’s son and Ophelia’s brother, a young man who spends much of the play in France. Passionate and quick to action. He is clearly a foil for the reflective Hamlet.

Laertes

One of ambassadors whom Claudius sends to Norway to persuade the king to prevent Fortinbras from attacking.

Voltemand

One of ambassadors (C...) whom Claudius sends to Norway to persuade the king to prevent Fortinbras from attacking.

Cornelius

One of two slightly bumbling courtiers, former friends of Hamlet from Wittenberg, who are summoned by Claudius and Gertrude to discover the cause of Hamlet’s strange behavior.

Rosencrantz

One of two slightly bumbling courtiers, former friends of Hamlet from Wittenberg, who are summoned by Claudius and Gertrude to discover the cause of Hamlet’s strange behavior.

Guildenstern

The foolish courtier sent by Claudius to invite Hamlet to participate in the duel with Laertes.

Osric

He informs Gertrude of Ophelia's strange change in behaviour, before Ophelia's first "mad" appearance.

A Gentelman

He officiates at Ophelia's funeral, and does not give her full Christian burial rights, since the church suspects her death was suicide.

A priest/ Doctor of Divinity

One of the officers who first see the ghost walking the ramparts of Elsinore and who summon Horatio to witness it. He is present when Hamlet first encounters the ghost.

Marcellus

One of the officers who first see the ghost walking the ramparts of Elsinore and who summon Horatio to witness it.

Bernardo

A soldier and guardsman at Elsinore.

Francisco

Polonius’s servant, who is sent to France by Polonius to check up on and spy on Laertes.

Reynaldo

Actors, friends of Hamlet, they had earlier performed in "the city" (presumably Copenhagen), traveled to Elsinore to offer Hamlet their services. At Elsinore, they perform a play—which Hamlet has modified and called The Mousetrap.

Players

Are convinced that Ophelia ought to be considered a suicide.

Two clowns (gravediggers)

The young Prince of Norway, whose father the king (Fortinbras) was killed by Hamlet’s father (also named Hamlet). Now wishes to attack Denmark to avenge his father’s honor, making him another foil for Prince Hamlet.

Fortinbras

He is in Fortinbras’s army, has no illusions about the campaign they are engaged in.

A Norwegian Captain

Arrive at Elsinore (in the final scene) with the news of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’s execution just after everyone dies.

English Ambassadors

The Queen of Denmark, Hamlet’s mother, recently married to Claudius.

Gertrude

Polonius’s daughter, a beautiful young woman with whom Hamlet has been in love. A sweet and innocent young girl, who obeys her father and her brother, Laertes.

Ophelia

Claims to have been murdered by Claudius, calls upon Hamlet to avenge him.

Ghost of Hamlet's Father

The Lord Chamberlain of Claudius’s court, a pompous, conniving old man. The father of Laertes and Ophelia.

Polonius

On eof gravediggers unearths his skull, which leads to Hamlet's famous speech.

Yorick

They deliver a letter from Hamlet to Horatio, informing Horatio that Hamlet has returned to Denmark.
